John D. Allan purchased Wilder's Hotel in Dennysville, Maine in 1865. The building then became "Allan's Hotel" and continued to provide the public "fine meals, clean, soft beds, and attentive service." On Aug. 3, 1875, President Ulysses S. Grant was a guest at Allan's Hotel, accompanied by Gen. Hastings of Washington and G.T. Granger of Calais.
